On the initiative of the Republic of Tajikistan and chaired by the Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, from March 22 to 24, in New York City, USA, was held at a high level the United Nations Conference on the Midterm Review of the Goals of the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028".
According to this Conference and the world initiatives of the great Leader of the Nation related to water resources and the protection of glaciers, on April 3, 2023, a scientific and practical conference was held at the Tajik International University of Foreign Languages named after Sotim Ulughzoda in three languages: - Tajik, Russian and English with the participation of industry experts.
The University Rector, Doctor of Philology, Professor Zhilo Gulnazarzoda gave the opening speech at the event and noted the historical and global initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, related to water issues, emphasizing that: “Support for the proposals of Tajikistan and the adoption over two decades by the UN General Assembly of nine resolutions on water issues and the chairmanship of the Leader of the Nation at the World High-Level Conference is a source of pride for us Tajiks and a sign of international recognition”.
In the course of, Muzaffar Shodmonov, an expert of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, called the chairmanship of the Leader of the country, His excellency Emomali Rahmon, at the United Nations Conference on the Midterm Review of the Objectives of the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028" historical and gave detailed information with facts about the initiatives of the Leader of the Nation and the protection of the environment, especially glaciers.
Kamoliddin Nazirzoda, an expert of the Center for the Glaciers Study of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Republic of Tajikistan and Sattor Saidov, an expert of the same agency, presented to the audience the scientific reports in foreign languages and slides on the state and prospects of glaciers in the country and the world.
Specialists in the field made useful reports with interesting presentations about glaciers, laboratories and the consequences of their destruction, and the global initiatives of the Head of State in this area were called timely, large-scale and historical.
The administration staff of the University: Ilhom Kamolzoda, Amonullo Karimov, Zubaidullo Musoyamov, Lemmara Jamirova, Hikmatullo Abdullozoda and Dilovar Majidov actively participated in the discussion and highly appreciated the content of the participants' reports.
It is worthy of mention and pride that on December 14, the United Nations General Assembly during its 77th session adopted the resolution “2025 - International Year for the Protection of Glaciers”, put forward by the Republic of Tajikistan.
